Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Nursery Manager in leading the day-to-day running of the nursery. The Deputy Manager will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of care and education are maintained, supporting staff development and acting as a key point of contact for children, parents and carers. In the Manager’s absence, the Deputy Manager will take full responsibility for the nursery and its operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Nursery Manager in leading the nursery team, ensuring all children receive exceptional care and education.
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), ensuring robust safeguarding practices are embedded throughout the setting.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to staff, acting as a positive role model and supporting their professional development.
  • Support staff in planning and delivering an engaging and challenging curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, providing coaching and feedback to continuously raise standards.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents and carers, promoting parental engagement and satisfaction.
  • Support with the recruitment, induction and supervision of staff.
  • Lead by example in providing a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment for all children.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including health and safety, safeguarding, GDPR and Ofsted regulations.
  • Support the Manager with administrative duties, including rotas, attendance, documentation and nursery organisation.
  • Take full responsibility for the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education (Level 5 or working towards is highly desirable).
  • Significant experience working in an early years setting, with experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and related legislation.
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training and knowledge of child protection procedures.
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate (or willingness to complete).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organised, flexible and able to manage a busy and dynamic environment.
  • A passion for delivering outstanding care and education, with a child-centred approach.

Working Hours
This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, across Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the setting. The Deputy Manager will work on a rota to ensure management cover is provided at all times.

Role Overview

As a Nursery Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day care and education of children within our nursery, ensuring that each child’s individual needs are met in a safe and nurturing environment.

  • Communication: Build positive relationships with parents and carers, providing regular updates on their child’s progress and daily activities. Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure consistent care for all children.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other team members to create a supportive and inclusive environment. Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of children’s development and progress, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and complies with nursery policies.
  • Safeguarding: Follow Bright Beams Day Nurseries’ safeguarding policies and procedures to protect the welfare of all children. Report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Level 2 Childcare Qualification: Recognized qualification in Early Years or Childcare (e.g., NVQ Level 2, CACHE Level 2, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Previous experience working in a nursery or childcare setting is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of the EYFS framework and child development principles.
  • Personal Qualities: Enthusiastic, caring, and patient with a genuine passion for working with young children. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Safeguarding: Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Working Hours

  • Full-Time Role: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
